Carol Hilleary is a painter living in Cross Lanes, West Virginia. She was born in 1953, in Elkins, West Virginia. Carol began her love for pastels while in high school. She further developed that love by receiving a B.A. in Liberal Arts with an Art Major from Glenville State College. Over the years she has explored various techniques. Her work is identifiable with its highly blended softness. In order to feed her desire for details, Carol pursued some architectural pen and ink drawings which lead to some historical sites displaying her work. This included the Cashtown Inn in Cashtown, Pennsylvania and the museum of Buffalo history in Buffalo, West Virginia. In recent years she has taken her work a step farther by receiving training in watercolors from well-known artist, Lynn Ferris. This has opened a whole new dynamic to her. The use of layering and working from shadow to light has been an amazing journey with the result being some lovely watercolor paintings. Her work has been displayed as the Artist of the Month at the former Pro Art, art supply store in Charleston, during the August 2015 Charleston Art Walk at the Charleston Ballet, at the South Charleston Mound Festival in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 where she won first place in the art category. She was the guest artist at Gallery Eleven in December of 2016 and was a member from 2016 thru 2021. Carol is also a member of Allied Artists in Charleston, WV, and The West Virginia Watercolor Society. She is also a juried artisan at Tamarack. Her work can be found in multiple public and private art collections. All her works are personally matted and framed by the artist in her studio. This keeps the cost of framing down. She offers this service to other artists and collectors through her company “Hilleary’s Artwork and Framing” at carolhillearyart.com.
